2014 INTERHOUSE SPELLING BEE CONTEST




Somerscales House wins Mackay's first Interhouse Spelling Bee Contest
Last Thursday, August 14, we held our first Interhouse Spelling Bee Contest in the School Gymnasium. 5th and 6th graders represented the houses of Sutherland, Robertson, Sommerscales, and Mackay in a gripping contest that had us all on the edge of our seats from beginning to end!
Students had just 60 seconds to correctly spell the most number of words in English, all taken from Junior and Senior English academic programmes.
Our boys were encouraged by their English teachers and classmates to represent each house, and were cheered on by students from Years 5, 6, 7, 8 and their corresponding House Captains and Deputies from 4 Medio, who guided and motivated them to give their best!
We are happy to announce that Somerscales House became victorious in the competition, followed by Houses Sutherland, Robertson, and Mackay.
Our upcoming Interhouse Competition, an English Poetry Contest, will take place on Thursday, August 28: ENGLISH POETRY CONTEST! 

CAMPAÑA NORTE - SUR

Estimados Padres,

Junto con saludarlos, nos dirigimos a ustedes para compartir una inquietud que nos preocupa como generación. Como ustedes bien saben, este mes de agosto está destinado al valor de la solidaridad y, en este contexto, nuestro colegio centra sus esfuerzos en reunir lo necesario para apadrinar a Escuelas de escasos recursos que son visitadas por los alumnos de 7º Básico (Viaje al Sur de Chile) y 1º Medio (Viaje al Norte de Chile). Lamentablemente, este año la campaña no ha tenido los resultados esperados en comparación a años anteriores.

Apelamos a toda su buena voluntad para colaborar con este propósito y nos permitimos recordarles que a los 5º básicos nos ha tocado ayudar con: sets de cartulinas de colores.

Queremos también aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecer de todo corazón a quienes ya han cooperado con esta linda causa.

Les deseamos un descansado fin de semana largo en compañía de sus familias.

A modo de apoyar vuestra supervisión de trabajo en el hogar, les damos una pequeña explicación de las instrucciones del trabajo enviado esta semana. las cuales aparecen copiadas a continuación.

I. How to eat healthy?

· Prepare a healthy four-meal menu a day, for a week, considering the members of your own family.

· Go to the supermarket or similar to find out the amount of many you need to cover all the food you need.

· Prepare a final report on the menu you have prepared and the costs associated.

II. Research

Se espera que los alumnos generen un informe que puede ser a mano o a computador con dos partes principales.

La primera corresponde a la elaboración de un menú de 4 comidas diarias saludables por una semana, para el grupo familiar, y asociar utilizando la estrategia de rounding, el valor monetario que sugiere dicho menú. Tal valor monetario debe indagarse a través de fuentes como el supermercado o ferias donde la familia suele comprar sus alimentos.


La segunda parte trata de ver el impacto del estilo de vida en el organismo humano, mediante hábitos tales como: el tabaquismo, la actividad física y la higiene.
